Christopher Soto Puerto Rico, 1986 Phoenix’ Dream (2021) Mixed Media 48” X 36” The artist portrays passion and opulence through the eyes of the Phoenix. The artist believes that after a storm, there will be a sunrise because from ashes we will always rise. The concept of this painting comes from the artist’s own dreams. The Phoenix has surfaced in multiple forms and shapes in his dreams. Hence, as part of the concept of his art collection Dreams, the artists relates his dreams to the god of sleep Hypnos which has the power to personify dreams. So, in this fantastic creation, Hypnos has transformed the Phoenix into a beautiful woman. The symbols in this painting: 1) the curvilinear contrast in the background represents both the struggles (color red) and the peace (color light blue) found after rising from the ashes, 2) the red and yellow red piece represents the wings of the Phoenix.
