Christopher Soto Puerto Rico, 1986 Dionysus’ Dream (2021) Mixed Media 30” x 40” The artist’s message behind this painting is to live your true self by first feel, process and let it go. This painting is an invitation to enjoy life to the fullest by not overthinking and detach from anything that subtracts from your positivity and greatness. From the ancient Greek tales, this painting is inspired by the god of wine and ecstasy. In this fantastic creation, Dionysus is dreaming about the next festivity his friends had invited him to. At the end of the day, we cannot live our lives to the fullest without a little bit of fiesta! The symbols in this painting depict: 1) the gold rings represent the Greek glass of wine of Dionysus, 2) the wings represent the god of sleep Hypnos as Dionysus is at sleep dreaming about his next adventure, 3) the grapes represent wine 4) the flowers represent love and happiness that will comes by loving your true self, 5) the gold drop on his mouth, although could portray a sexual connotation, it represents our feelings after enjoying a good glass of sparkling wine. 6) the white and unfinished grapes represent the numerous future adventures to experience after we find our true happiness (white sun).
